The public sidewalk bordering your property is your responsibility, not the City’s. Calgary gives you 24 hours after snowfall stops to clear it down to bare surface, and the fines start at $250. It is also the single most common thing left out of a cheap snow removal quote.
Golden Angel clears sidewalks across all four quadrants of Calgary, for homes and for businesses. On our residential plans the sidewalk is included rather than billed as an extra, starting at $179 a month.
What we clear
- The full public sidewalk bordering the property, cleared to bare surface rather than skimmed.
- Corner lots on both sides. A corner lot carries sidewalk on two frontages, which is why it prices differently from a mid-block property.
- The approach and the curb cut, so the sidewalk actually connects to the street instead of ending in a ridge.
- Ice control after clearing. Snow comes off, then the surface gets treated. On residential plans the ice melt is part of the plan, not an add-on.
- Business frontages, entrances and accessible routes, including the path from the parking stalls to your door.
Walkways, steps and landings on private property are cleared by hand on the same visit. Steps are where most winter falls happen, so they are never done with a machine.
The rule, in plain language
You have 24 hours after the snow stops to clear the public sidewalk to bare surface. Enforcement is complaint-driven, and a complaint cannot be filed until that 24 hours has passed. Fines escalate at $250, then $500, then $750 within a twelve month period.
The expensive outcome is rarely a single ticket. It is a pattern of them across a long winter, usually on a property the owner does not live at: a rental, an inherited house, a second property, or a business the owner visits twice a week. Why this matters more for a business
A snow-covered sidewalk outside a storefront does two things at once. It tells customers you are not open for business, and it makes you the obvious defendant if someone falls.
- Seniors, parents with strollers and anyone using a mobility aid simply do not attempt an icy walkway. That is lost revenue on every snow day.
- Reviews mention the walk in. Nobody writes that your sidewalk was clean, but they will mention the one that was not.

Sidewalk clearing is part of the residential seasonal plan rather than a separate line item:

Seniors take 5% off, and booking before October 15 takes 15% off a residential seasonal plan, or 10% off the season for a commercial site. Commercial sites are quoted per property because sidewalk length, entrances and required response time all change the job.
Get it covered before the first snowfall
Tell us the address and roughly how much sidewalk frontage there is, and whether it is a corner lot. The quote is free and based on the actual property. What is covered gets confirmed in writing before the season, so there is no argument in January about whether the sidewalk was included.
